WHAT IS 20% TIME?

WE LOVE NEW PROJECTS!
|
We follow the same basic process each presentation rotation!
1. Question/Idea generation: The students go to sites like Britannica School, Kiddle and Wonderopolis to come up with research ideas. They turn that idea into a question, then submit it to me. 2. Question selection: I choose 9 of the questions that are the most appropriate for research. The students choose the topic they'd like to study. If a student submitted one of the questions, they get first dibs on that research project. 3. Initial research: Students spend one class time doing initial research on their topic. They can take notes or ask for help at this stage. 4. Topic revision: We get together as a class and each group reports the coolest thing they found and/or a problem they encountered. We problem solve to help them revise their topics if necessary. 5. Research and PowerPoint creation: Students research their topic and answer their question using a PowerPoint. The show must have some kind of structure, and introductory slide, and a concluding slide. This is an important writing skill! 6. Presentation: They present their findings to the class. |
